Native landscaping at Pump House Community Center.
Something Green is Taking Root
Rockville is developing a Green Space Management Plan to help guide the future management of more than 1,000 acres of public green spaces throughout the city. From forests and street trees to natural areas and landscaped public spaces, these diverse landscapes each play a unique role in supporting native plants, wildlife, and healthy ecosystems. Many also contribute to water quality, stormwater management, climate resilience, and other environmental benefits that strengthen our community. The planning process will combine field assessments and community input to establish a long-term vision for the stewardship of these valuable community spaces.
The project team will inventory and assess Rockville’s green spaces while engaging the community to help identify priorities, opportunities, and shared values. Together, this work will help shape strategies to promote healthy forests and native plant communities, manage invasive species, protect and restore habitat, and ensure each green space is managed in a way that reflects its unique characteristics and purpose.
What's Ahead?
The Green Space Management Plan will be developed over the coming months through field assessments and community engagement. Check back throughout the project for:
Community surveys and interactive maps
Public meeting and event announcements
Project updates and key milestones
Opportunities to review and provide feedback
Presentations and final plan materials
