The Rockville Pike Plan Update Kicks Off!
The Mayor and Council have requested that a new neighborhood plan be created for the Rockville Pike area (Planning Area 9) to update the respective chapter in the city's 2021 Comprehensive Plan. With significant changes in the community's office and housing markets since the Comprehensive Plan was adopted, such as the decline in the suburban office market and the continued need for additional affordable housing, there is a need to update the Rockville Pike plan to reflect these new realities and position the area to meet the challenges of the next few decades. In addition, upcoming major transportation and infrastructure projects, such as Montgomery County's bus rapid transit (BRT) lines along Veirs Mill Road and MD-355 and WMATA's interest in redeveloping their property around the Twinbrook Metro station, present opportunities for the city to reconsider the vision for this important corridor of Rockville.
The city's Department of Community Planning and Development Services (CPDS) will take the lead on developing this plan. There will be many opportunities over the coming months to engage with the city and provide ideas, suggestions, and feedback on what this new plan for the Rockville Pike corridor should include and what form it should take.
